For more than 14 years, Peter Spiak has helped build and strengthen the technology that allows our teams to deliver high-quality support to families on our service.
In our newest Faces of Careforth installment, Peter reflects on what drew him to mission-driven work and why stability is the quiet force that makes meaningful impact possible. His perspective is a powerful reminder of the intersection between technology and humanity.
What is your role and how long have you worked at Careforth?
I’m the Manager of Business Applications at Careforth, and I’ve been with the organization for a little over 14 years.
What inspired you to join the Careforth team?
Before joining Careforth, I was looking to move to the Boston area and wanted to work for a company with a meaningful mission. I worked with someone connected to Careforth at the time, and the mission to support families and caregivers made it an easy and exciting decision.
How do you support families and caregivers in your role, and why is it important?
My work focuses on the technology and systems that power our programs and daily operations. By helping ensure our tools are reliable, efficient, and easy for associates to use, I’m able to indirectly support the families and caregivers we serve.
Do you have a personal connection to caregiving that you’re comfortable sharing? If so, what is it?
While I don’t have experience caregiving for an aging parent or relative, I do understand caregiving from the perspective of being a parent to two young children. That experience has given me a deep appreciation for the patience, responsibility, and compassion that caregiving requires.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy solving complex problems and working with cross-functional teams to build solutions that make a real difference in how we serve families.
How does your work contribute to Careforth’s mission and values?
By strengthening the systems and processes that support our care teams, my work helps ensure we can deliver consistent, high-quality support to caregivers and families.
What’s something interesting about your job that people may not know?
A lot of the impact of my team’s work happens behind the scenes. When systems run smoothly, it often goes unnoticed, but that stability is what allows the rest of the organization to do their best work every day.
What excites you about how our technology is evolving in support of our mission?
I’m excited about how data, automation, and emerging technologies are helping us better understand caregiver and family needs, streamline workflows, and ultimately provide more personalized and proactive support.
How do you maintain a positive work-life balance in this field?
I prioritize time with my family and stay active outside of work. Maintaining clear boundaries and making time to recharge helps me stay focused and energized professionally.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in the healthcare space?
Stay curious, be patient, and remember that even roles that aren’t directly client-facing can have a meaningful impact on people’s lives. Healthcare is complex, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.
What is one fun fact about you that your colleagues may not know about?
I’m an avid runner and enjoy setting personal goals and training toward new race milestones.
