Faces of Careforth Lisa Reed

Faces of Careforth: Lisa Reed

At Careforth, our team members live out our mission of supporting caregivers and their families every day. Few embody that spirit more than Senior Account Manager Lisa Reed. For nearly five years, she’s been at the forefront of connecting Indiana families with the resources they need to help loved ones age in the comfort and safety of their homes. Whether she’s presenting to community partners or mentoring new colleagues across the country, she’s spreading the word about Structured Family Caregiving and Caregiver Coaching in Indiana, ensuring caregivers know they are not alone.

Lisa’s passion for this work is personal. Having been a caregiver herself—first for her father, and now alongside her husband for his father—Lisa understands firsthand the challenges and rewards of caregiving. That lived experience fuels her empathy and drives her commitment to educating families about their options.

What is your role and how long have you worked at Careforth?

I am a senior account manager in Indiana, and I have been blessed to be with Careforth for almost 5 years. I get the opportunity to collaborate with local Area Agencies on Aging (AAA), health plans, hospital systems, and physician groups to ensure those wanting to age in place (at home) have the wrap around supports and resources to do so. I also serve the Central Indiana area, covering Bloomington, Indianapolis, and Lafayette. My job is to spread the word about Careforth’s Structured Family Caregiving (SFC) service.

What inspired you to join the Careforth team?

There are two reasons I was inspired to join the team at Careforth. Some of my colleagues and personal friends worked for Careforth, and were so happy with their decisions to join this organization that I felt led to join them. The second reason is our mission. It is truly in the heart of every single team member and really inspires me. Working for an organization whose values are leading with heart and cultivating trust was truly a no-brainer!

How do you support families and caregivers in your role, and why is it important?

I spend every single day shouting from the rooftops about Careforth being the leading provider of Structured Family Caregiving across the country. It is my goal to ensure that every community and family is aware of this service. I present to hospital systems, community centers, health plans, AAAs, and caregiver support groups about Careforth and Structured Family Caregiving so that caregivers understand that they are not alone.

Do you have a personal connection to caregiving that you’re comfortable sharing? If so, what is it?

I was my father’s caregiver for nine years while he was battling cancer. At that time, I was a real estate broker and had no idea that there was support available in Indiana. I now help my husband care for his father; we have been caring for him for about 4 years. We set him up in a wonderful assisted living facility, but we spend 3-4 days a week caring for him.  Thankfully, I now understand the challenges of being a caregiver and I know the supports and resources available. It helps navigating his healthcare journey so much easier.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love being a resource for families, communities, and other providers and educating them on the help available. Connecting a family to an appropriate resource that is truly going to change their lives is so rewarding! Seeing the difference that our team makes in a family’s life never gets old. It is what motivates me to be better and to do better every day.

How do you contribute to our company’s mission and values?

As part of the growth team, I contribute daily to our company’s mission and values by providing ongoing education about Careforth and our support available throughout Indiana. My goal is to touch every family that needs support at home by connecting them to Careforth and other appropriate resources.

What’s something interesting about your job that people may not know?

In addition to being part of the growth team in Indiana as a senior account manager, I provide training and mentoring for many of the new account managers that join Careforth across the country.

How do you maintain a positive work-life balance in this field?

Healthcare can be all-consuming, especially if you are driven and motivated to help people. Careforth is incredibly intentional about setting work-life balance priorities for their staff. Work-life balance is crucial because it improves overall well-being, preventing stress, burnout, and negative health outcomes, while also boosting productivity, engagement, and creativity at work.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in healthcare?

The healthcare industry needs good people. If you are considering a career in healthcare, make certain that you are going into it for the right reasons: to help others. Once you determine that you can commit to helping people, then align yourself with an organization that reflects your values.

What is one fun fact about you that your colleagues may not know about?

I come from Southern Indiana so I’m a rural girl. Even though I’m all business during the day, outside of work I love being a chicken mom, homemaker, and going jeeping on the weekends!

What is your favorite quote?

There are so many quotes that I love:

  • “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Arthur Ashe
  • “Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud.” – Maya Angelou
  • “The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” – Michael Altshuler
