Faces of Careforth: Dawn Casper

In our December Faces of Careforth spotlight, we’re featuring Dawn Casper and her unique journey. After 8 years with Careforth, Dawn left for another opportunity earlier this year. She returned a few months ago and has provided support and guidance as an RN Care Management Lead ever since. Dawn leads with heart, cultivates trust, and goes beyond in her role while supporting family caregivers and their loved ones.

What is your role and how long have you worked at Careforth?

I am an RN Care Management Lead and have been with Careforth just over 90 days. When I worked here before, I was an RN Care Manager and had been with Careforth for almost 8 years. Earlier this year, I went to work for another company and regretted leaving Careforth. I kept an eye out on Careforth’s website to find something I would enjoy doing in my area. I really missed working here and am so glad I was lucky enough to come back.

What inspired you to join our team?

Careforth is such a unique and wonderful place to work. They believe in work-family balance and are a very compassionate and caring company. Careforth believes in its company values of leading with heart, cultivating trust, and going beyond—not just for our families, but with associates as well.

I have never heard of a company where the caregiver is the center of attention. It is normally the person being cared for. Here at Careforth, yes, the care recipient matters, and so does the caregiver. I love the way we support them.

How do you support families and caregivers in your role, and why is it important?

My position is more in support of our ongoing teams who are supporting our families. If the care managers need help, they will reach out to me. I reach out to the caregivers if needed, or whatever our teams need help with.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy all aspects of my role, but the best is being here to support my coworkers and getting to know and helping both the caregivers and those they care for.

How do you contribute to our company’s mission and values?

I have always led with my heart and tried to go beyond. These families that we support are in need of support and education. I love being here for them and helping them in any way possible.

What’s something interesting about your job that people may not know?

Teaching and supporting my coworkers. When I was a care manager, I didn’t realize how much the care management leads helped the care managers educate the staff. I also enjoy it when I get to step in and help our caregivers. I love touching base with our families and getting to know each and every one of them.

How do you maintain a positive work-life balance in this field?

I love that Careforth offers flex time which makes it easier to balance my personal life. There are some days that are longer and harder, but then there are other days that aren’t. Knowing that these days will come and go makes it much easier to maintain a balance.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in healthcare?

It is a wonderful career. There are so many different opportunities that you will find something that you love to do. It took me several years and different jobs, until I found my niche and a special place to work.

What is one fun fact about you that your colleagues may not know about?

I also have an accounting degree. I worked in the accounting field before I became an RN. I worked in an accounting office, completed tax returns, and settled mutual fund trades for 1st Source Bank. My husband and I also own our own business. We have a very small farm, and we used to complete the entire harvest of trees. Now my husband just hauls the logs.

What is your favorite quote?
