Faces of Careforth: Matt Kurker
Our first Faces of Careforth in 2025 brings us to Senior Project Manager Matt Kurker! Many Careforth associates work directly with caregivers on a daily basis, while many others do important work behind the scenes. Matt’s work managing projects and processes is what makes us more effective as we support family caregivers and those they care for.
What is your role and how long have you worked at Careforth?
I’m a Senior Project Manager and have been with Careforth for 3 years.
What inspired you to join Careforth?
I became interested in Careforth (Seniorlink at the time), since a few former colleagues were already part of the team. Upon looking into the organization’s mission and understanding the growth potential for caregiver supports in the healthcare industry, applying to this role was an easy decision. The final selling point for me was hearing the excitement and passion from each team member during the interview process, as they explained more about the meaningful work that the team does to improve quality of living for caregivers, care recipients, and their loved ones.
How do you support families and caregivers in your role, and why is it important?
With each project that I lead, I know that we are making significant progress to identify and support more caregivers in innovative ways. Whether we are expanding to a new market, identifying operational efficiencies, or making improvements to our existing products, I take pride knowing that the work that our team is prioritizing will have a positive impact on the caregivers’ lives, and ultimately those for whom they provide care.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
In my role as a project manager, I have the unique opportunity to work with talented people from all teams across the Careforth organization, as well as collaborating with external partners and health plans across the country. I enjoy bringing these diverse groups of people together to align on shared goals, and creating actionable plans to bring exciting new ideas to life.
How do you contribute to our company’s mission and values?
I know that the projects I lead will enable Careforth to reach and support more caregivers, and improve the ways that we support those caregivers and their loved ones.
What’s something interesting about your job that people may not know?
In addition to my primary responsibilities, I also serve as co-chair on our Employee Engagement Committee, an employee-led Business Resource Group here at Careforth. The work that we do on this committee is focused on continuing to make Careforth an awesome place to work so that our associates can continue to focus on taking great care of family caregivers.
How do you maintain a positive work-life balance in this field?
As a working parent, I am lucky to have found a great work-life balance at Careforth. The team truly embodies our core values: lead with heart, cultivate trust, and go beyond. Whenever there is a need to take time off (planned or unexpected), I know that I have the full support of the Careforth team, and a solid coverage plan in place.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in healthcare?
Look for a niche within the healthcare industry where you can truly enjoy showing up each day. Bonus points if you can find a place like Careforth, where you know the work you do will have a positive impact on families, health outcomes, and overall quality of living.
What is one fun fact about you that your colleagues may not know about?
I am an aspiring home cook, and my kids claim I am the best pizza maker in Boston, MA!
What is your favorite quote?
I’m not sure if I have a favorite, but the following is a quote that I try to keep in mind whenever a project seems to be “stuck” or running into an issue: “The price of inaction is far greater than the cost of making a mistake.” — Meister Eckhart
