Esther Wilson is the star of February’s Faces of Careforth spotlight. As Senior Community Engagement Specialist in the Southeast region, Esther is a vital support for caregivers and their families. She has worked closely with many families on our service, while helping them navigate the Medicaid system. Read on to learn about Esther’s journey and why she’s passionate about her work.
What is your role and how long have you worked at Careforth?
I have been with Careforth for 5 years. In that time, I was a Community Engagement Specialist and have been promoted to Senior Community Engagement Specialist.
What inspired you to join our team?
I was inspired to join Careforth by the company mission and the opportunity to make a positive impact through the work I do.
How do you support families and caregivers in your role, and why is it important?
I support families and their caregivers by helping them navigate the cost share portion of the Medicaid system. In this role, it allows me to educate them and assist with lowering the family’s costs.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love my families! They are the reasons I enjoy my job. The responses of appreciation I receive from them is priceless.
How do you contribute to our company’s mission and values?
I contribute to Careforth’s mission and values by making myself available in several ways as needed. People are at the heart of everything we do, and that means co-workers, leadership, and the families we serve.
What’s something interesting about your job that people may not know?
People may not know the variety of capacities that I engage in here at Careforth. I assist the sales staff with training and referrals, and in the clinical department with interviewing, training, and development of both new hires and current team members. I also work closely with our Operations and Finance teams to improve the cost share program within Careforth.
How do you maintain a positive work-life balance in this field?
I focus on “high impact tasks” first, delegate whenever possible, practice time management, and seek support when I need it.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in healthcare?
I would say, know it’s your passion. I feel the healthcare field is calling; you have to have a heart for service and understand the commitment to this field of work. It can be demanding but very rewarding!
What is one fun fact about you that your colleagues may not know about?
I love children! Their innocence, honesty, joy, positivity, and their active imaginations.
What is your favorite quote?
“It’s not how much you do, but how much love you put in the doing.” – Mother Teresa
