Amanda Hermiller, Social Work Care Manager at Careforth

Faces of Careforth: Amanda Hermiller

Caregiving doesn’t happen in isolation; it unfolds within a web of healthcare systems, community resources, and deeply personal decisions. Social workers play a critical role in helping families make sense of it all. Their work not only improves outcomes, but helps caregivers feel seen, supported, and capable in their role.

At Careforth, that impact comes to life through our dedicated associates who meet families where they are and walk alongside them every step of their caregiving journey. In this month’s Faces of Careforth, we hear from a new addition to our team, Social Work Care Manager Amanda Hermiller, about what drew her to this work and why building strong, trusting relationships is at the center of what she does.

What is your role and how long have you worked at Careforth?

I am a Social Work Care Manager and have been with Careforth since February 2026. My role is to help caregivers by providing them with support, direction, and guidance. I work with a team of other care managers, complete monthly home visits, and collaborate on solutions to issues that may come up in caregiving. I navigate community resources and make referrals to benefit the families we serve.

What inspired you to join the Careforth team?

I have worked in other care manager positions in my career, and I wanted to get back into that kind of work. I enjoy working one on one with families to support their loved ones throughout their health journey. I was drawn to Careforth’s focus on supporting the caregiver. I feel that sometimes the caregiver doesn’t get the type of support they need and deserve, so that was a big motivator to join Careforth.

How do you support families and caregivers in your role, and why is it important?

I assist caregivers and their families by providing support, active listening, guidance, and resources. I also work with their waiver case managers to connect them with resources and supplies they need. This is important because it helps improve the quality of life, not just for the person receiving care, but for the caregiver as well.

Do you have a personal connection to caregiving that you’re comfortable sharing? If so, what is it?

I have seen family members care for aging loved ones and understand how hard physically, mentally, and emotionally it can be as a caregiver. This has helped guide my career path to help other caregivers.

What excites you most about your role and the work ahead?

I look forward to getting to know the families I work with. I believe that building a strong, trusting relationship with each family will help me support them as best I can. I’m also excited to get to know and collaborate with my coworkers more as I settle into my new role.

How does your work contribute to Careforth’s mission and values?

As I begin this new role, I hope to support and connect with the families that I work with, helping them confidently care for their loved ones. I hope my guidance and support can help make their caregiving experience a positive one.

What’s something interesting about your job that people may not know?

I am still learning something new every day, so I feel that everything is interesting at this point.

March is National Social Work Month. Why are social workers an important partner in helping family caregivers access the support they deserve?

Social workers are vital partners for family caregivers because they bridge the gap between complex health systems and the community support families need. This helps reduce caregiver burnout and ensures access to resources. Social workers provide expert care navigation, financial guidance, emotional counseling, and advocacy to help families manage care safely.

What has stood out to you most about the people and culture at Careforth so far?

The friendly, welcoming atmosphere has stood out most. Everyone has always been willing to help and guide me as I am learning my new role!

How do you maintain a positive work-life balance in this field?

My role at Careforth is very flexible and supports a positive work-life balance. I ensure that I take time for myself on my days off and maintain healthy boundaries.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in the healthcare space?

If you are working with someone in a healthcare setting, it’s usually because they are ill or in some sort of need. Meet people where they are in their health journey. The healthcare world can be scary, especially for the person receiving care. Approach with warmth and understanding. Guide them but let them lead.

What is one fun fact about you that your colleagues may not know about?

I love lemon flavored desserts!
