Marc Russo Named Careforth Chief Executive Officer
Careforth is pleased to name Marc Russo as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Russo joins Careforth with a distinguished and successful career in healthcare including operational and financial leadership at several managed care organizations.
“It’s a privilege to step into this role at Careforth, where the focus is on providing families with the support they need to care for loved ones at home,” said Marc. “I look forward to working with the Careforth team to expand our reach, serve more caregivers and families, and find new ways to support the caregivers essential to our communities and healthcare system. Each day, the Careforth services and solutions lead to improved outcomes for members, caregivers, families, and payors.”
With over 25 years of experience in healthcare management, Russo most recently served as Executive Vice President of Medicaid at Molina Healthcare, where he led the company’s Medicaid business through significant expansion across 21 states, substantially increasing membership and service reach. Throughout his career, Russo has held executive positions at Anthem, WellCare, Blue Shield of California, and UnitedHealthcare, where he led innovative approaches to member engagement, enhancing quality, care management, and membership growth.
Russo brings to Careforth a personal passion for supporting caregivers across the country, shaped by his own experience caring for his mother. This first-hand understanding of the practical and emotional challenges caregivers face deepens his commitment to Careforth’s mission. Russo lives in Saratoga Springs, NY. He and his wife have four children and two dogs.
Tom Boelsen, who has been serving as Interim CEO, will be returning to his role as Careforth’s Chief Financial Officer. “I am excited and confident that Marc is a great addition to Careforth. His experience and proven leadership will be invaluable as we continue to advance our mission to expand our services and support to a larger network of family caregivers. Marc’s insight and dedication to providing a high level of quality care aligns with Careforth’s commitment to empowering caregivers and their families.”
Under Russo’s leadership, Careforth is poised to drive meaningful innovation in family caregiving support services at a critical time for the healthcare and caregiving landscape. With over 53 million Americans now providing care to loved ones—a role valued at an estimated $600 billion—family caregivers are truly the backbone of the nation’s long-term care system. Given Russo’s extensive background in healthcare innovation, he will shape new initiatives aimed at strengthening resources for caregivers and providing the support they need to confidently care for their loved ones at home for many years to come.
